Temazepam is ahigh alert medication, which means if you do not take it exactly as prescribed it maycause illness or injury.To understand how Temazepam works, let’s look at what happens in your body whenyou are trying to sleep.Your brain is constantly firing information and messages to the rest of your body,telling you what to think, what to feel and what to do. When you are ready to sleep,the messages being fired in your brain slow down allowing you to fall asleep. Butwhen you have insomnia, your brain cannot slow down the messages, and you stayawake.Temazepam enhances a chemical in the brain called GABA, which helps calm downthe signals that are firing in your brain so you can fall asleep and stay asleep throughthe night.Temazepam comes in a capsule. Doses come in either 15 or 30 mg capsules. Yourhealthcare provider will decide how much you need to take and how best to take it.Temazepam is a powerful medication. Some people should not take it. Do not takeTemazepam if you are allergic to the ingredients in it.Do not take Temazepam if you are pregnant. Get upfrom a sitting or lying position slowly.Make sure you are fully awake before you drive or operate heavy machinery, includingyour car, while taking Temazepam.Do not drink alcohol while taking Temazepam. Drinking alcohol while takingTemazepam can cause serious side effects leading to death.When taking Temazepam, you may do things you don’t remember doing. If thishappens to you, stop taking Temazepam and call your healthcare provider.If you have an allergic reaction like: trouble breathing, hives, or swelling of your faceor throat; call 911.If you have: weak or shallow breathing, fast or pounding heartbeats, confusion, moodor behavior changes, slurred speech, hallucinations, thoughts of hurting yourself orothers, fever, problems urinating, dark urine or yellowing of the skin or eyes; call yourhealthcare provider right away.This is not the complete list of side effects. Your bathroom medicinecabinet is not the best place because of moisture.
